Palmerston North · Manawatū
Spankie Jackzon is an award-winning drag queen from Palmerston North who won Season 2 of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under in 2022. Her catchphrase "it's always balmy in Palmy" went viral on the show, helping put her hometown on the cultural map — including a sold-out 1,300-seat venue for NZ's largest drag showcase. "It was the gayest thing to happen to Palmerston North by a mile," she said. Beyond performing, Spankie is channelling her energy into community building. She is selling the sceptre she won on Drag Race Down Under to fund 'The Jackzon Effect', a creative hub in Palmerston North for local artists. "All I want to do is bring some joy and give that buffer and give artists a place to thrive in Palmerston North and rural towns."
