Hugo Grrrl is a Wellington-based drag king, fulltime performer, MC, producer, and writer. In 2017 he became national champion of the King of all Kings NZ drag king pageant, and in 2018 he won season one of NZ's drag race House of Drag — making him the first drag king ever to both feature in and win a televised drag reality competition. His events are known for being inventive and sparkly, working across all manner of social spaces. Beyond performing, Hugo Grrrl is a creator of work for the next generation. He took home the 2020 Playmarket New Zealand Plays for the Young Award for *The Glitter Garden*, billed as the world's first drag musical for kids, and has since developed a TV show for tamariki called *Mr Hugo's Little Library*, bringing stories to life through song, performance, and vibrant costumes.
