Freya Silas Finch is a multidisciplinary queer and trans artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau, working across theatre, film, and performance art. They have received an Arts Foundation Springboard Award and participated in Dame Jane Campion's film intensive A Wave in the Ocean. Their solo show A Slow Burlesque, developed with Silo Theatre, explores gender as performance — "something that felt playful and joyful," as Finch puts it. On the show, Finch is clear about what they wanted to offer audiences: "There can be playfulness, so that's what I wanted to focus on." Developed through a New York residency at MothershipNYC and multiple development blocks with Silo Theatre, the work draws on the history of burlesque and early drag from the 1920s–40s. Finch is also in pre-production on a short film, and working toward their first feature.
